Fortune and I attended the Dog Days of Scugog this past Sunday and had an absolute riot visiting with old friends and trying a new sport....dock diving. I'd seen it on tv before but had no idea the sport had taken off here in Ontario. Fortune was amazing for being just a beginner. She jumped 8'10" from a standing position at the end of the dock on her second attempt. The other more experienced dogs took a running leap into the pool but it was suggested I start out slow with Fortune and work ourselves up to a full run and jump after more practice. Later I was told if she can jump almost 9' from a standing still position she'll excel once we both get the hang of it. She won third place in her Wave! Of course I didn't get any pictures but I do have an old one of her jumping off the dock the cottage. Her form hasn't changed much

What was really neat was watching Fortune 'clue in' as she observed the other dogs jump. After about the fourth dog she was doing her beagle bark, spinning in 360's and pulling towards the pool area. I think she had a flashback to her SSD training when they lined the string of dogs up in the crates, took one dog out and ran through the skill as the other dogs watched. One of the trainers told me she knew when a dog in the crate had figured out what was expected because it would bark and carry on and perform the skill when released from the crate.
